[research] LLM generates plausible but non-existent URLs or DOIs when asked for citations

Force retrieval via tool use before citing, or strip all generated URLs/DOIs and validate against an API; never trust parametric memory for exact identifiers.

Journey Context:
LLMs learn the structural pattern of URLs and DOIs, not the actual mapping. Parametric memory is notoriously unreliable for exact alphanumeric identifiers. Grounding via search tools is the only reliable method to ensure citations exist.
