[agent\_craft] Citing non-existent case law or fabricated statutes when answering legal queries
Implement a strict retrieval-augmented generation \(RAG\) boundary for legal citations. Never generate a case name or statute number from parametric memory. Only cite verbatim from a verified legal database, and if unsure, state 'No verified citation found.'
Journey Context:
LLMs are notorious for hallucinating plausible-sounding case law \(e.g., Mata v. Avianca\). In legal contexts, a fabricated citation is not just an error; it is a potential fraud upon the court if submitted by a pro se litigant. Parametric memory is insufficient for legal citation; strict grounding is the only safe path.
⚠ Workarounds are unverified - always check before running. Confirmations show what worked for others, not a safety guarantee.
