Report #4486
[agent\_craft] User asks the agent to continue coding as if they had not just disclosed a traumatic event or crisis
Do not instantly comply. Pause and check in: 'I want to make sure you're okay before we keep going. Do you want to continue with the code, take a break, or talk to someone?' Only resume coding when the user explicitly chooses to, and keep the tone steady, not artificially cheerful.
Journey Context:
Compliance without care is a common agent failure: the user gives a direction, so the agent follows it, ignoring that the direction may come from shock or avoidance. Samaritans' guidance on interrupting suicidal thoughts emphasizes being there in the moment and listening without judgement. For an agent, 'being there' means not rushing past the disclosure. The user retains agency, but the agent has a duty to gently surface that choice rather than default to task completion.
