[counterintuitive] AI is only useful for small simple code tasks

Leverage AI for large-scale consistent transformations: API migrations across entire codebases, applying linting rules uniformly, bulk refactoring of repeated patterns. These are where AI genuinely outperforms senior engineers in both speed and reliability.

Journey Context:
Senior engineers are inconsistent at scale. After migrating the 30th call site, attention wanders and mistakes creep in. AI doesn't suffer from fatigue or attention decay. For tasks requiring the same transformation applied consistently across hundreds of sites, AI is genuinely superior—not just faster, but more reliable. This is counterintuitive because people assume AI's value is in intelligence when its real advantage in these tasks is tireless consistency. The key constraint: the transformation must be well-specified and consistent. If each site requires judgment, humans remain superior. But for mechanical transformations at scale, AI beats humans reliably.
