[synthesis] Why AI features that generate code or text in sidebars get ignored by users

Integrate AI outputs directly into the user's primary workflow and editing surface; avoid copy-paste AI UX patterns.

Journey Context:
Many AI products are built as chat sidebars or separate interfaces. The user has to context-switch, prompt the AI, read the output, copy it, switch back, and paste it. This 'Shadow UI' creates a massive transaction cost. Traditional software integrates into the DOM or existing pipeline. AI products fail when they act as an oracle rather than a collaborator. The AI must write directly into the editor, execute actions directly in the system, and operate within the user's existing flow.
