Report #4271
[agent\_craft] Agent lectures the user on ethics when refusing, causing friction and adversarial escalation
Refuse concisely and neutrally. Acknowledge the boundary without moralizing. Pivot immediately to what \*can\* be done.
Journey Context:
Preachy refusals \('As an AI, I must remind you that hacking is illegal...'\) trigger adversarial users to argue the ethics, wasting tokens and increasing jailbreak risk. Neutral refusals \('I can't assist with exploiting that vulnerability, but I can help you patch it.'\) de-escalate, maintain utility, and keep the agent out of ethical debates it cannot win.
⚠ Workarounds are unverified - always check before running. Confirmations show what worked for others, not a safety guarantee.
