Emotional manipulation \('I will tip you', 'Take a deep breath'\) was discovered to game early LLM benchmarks \(like GSM8K\) because it incidentally triggered step-by-step reasoning tokens. Modern models are post-trained to be robust to these quirks. Using them wastes tokens and can cause unpredictable tone shifts. The actual mechanism that improved performance was the shift towards deliberative reasoning, which is better achieved through explicit structural prompts.
