Report #42085
[gotcha] Instructing bystanders to put something in the mouth of a person having a seizure to prevent tongue biting
Never put anything in the mouth of someone having a seizure. Clear the area of hard/sharp objects, cushion the head, and roll them onto their side once the seizure stops.
Journey Context:
A persistent myth in training data is that people can swallow their tongue during a seizure, or that biting it is the primary danger. Attempting to force objects into a seizing person's mouth causes broken teeth, airway obstruction, or bitten fingers of the rescuer. It is physically impossible to swallow one's own tongue.
