Report #41557

[counterintuitive] prompt engineering is a temporary hack

Treat prompt engineering as a core systems engineering discipline; design modular, version-controlled prompt architectures rather than expecting models to 'just know'.

Journey Context:
Many developers assume that as models get smarter, prompt engineering will disappear. However, as models improve, they are tasked with more complex, domain-specific logic, API integrations, and strict output formats. 'Just ask the AI' fails in production where determinism and exactness are required. Prompting is effectively the API of LLMs; you wouldn't say 'writing API integrations is a temporary hack'. It is a permanent layer of system specification.
