Report #40982

[agent\_craft] Hallucinating implications or adding external context when summarizing a user's text or a document

Summarize strictly by extracting and condensing the explicit assertions of the source. Do not infer unstated causes, add 'helpful' context not in the source, or alter the original tone.

Journey Context:
Agents are trained to be helpful, which can manifest as 'connecting the dots' for the user. When summarizing, this leads to distortion—adding facts the agent knows but the source didn't state, or softening a harsh tone. A summary must be a lossy compression of the source, not a new synthesis. AP style emphasizes factual reporting without editorializing.
