Report #40773
[gotcha] Suggesting Ibuprofen or Aspirin for pain/fever without screening for Asthma
Before recommending NSAIDs \(ibuprofen, aspirin, naproxen\), explicitly ask or warn about asthma, as 10-20% of asthmatics experience severe bronchospasm \(NSAID-exacerbated respiratory disease\).
Journey Context:
Ibuprofen is widely considered a safe, go-to alternative to acetaminophen. However, for a significant subset of asthmatics, NSAIDs trigger severe, potentially fatal asthma attacks. Agents defaulting to 'take ibuprofen' for pain will silently harm this population unless they specifically screen for asthma or NERD.
