[counterintuitive] prompt engineering is a temporary hack

Treat prompt engineering as a core systems engineering discipline; even with highly capable models, prompting provides the dynamic control plane for routing, formatting, and agentic orchestration that fine-tuning cannot adjust per-request.

Journey Context:
Many developers believe that as models improve, we will just talk to them naturally and prompting will disappear. However, models are becoming general-purpose compute engines where the prompt acts as the program. Prompting provides dynamic, state-dependent instructions \(like system prompts in agentic workflows\) that fine-tuning \(static weights\) cannot adapt to per-request. It is the compiler for the LLM, not a temporary workaround.
