Report #38093

[gotcha] Should I put ice on a severe burn to cool it down?

Use cool \(not cold\) running water for 20 minutes. Never use ice.

Journey Context:
Intuitively, ice seems better than cool water for a burn. However, ice causes vasoconstriction and frostbite on already compromised tissue, deepening the burn injury and worsening tissue necrosis. The trap is over-cooling.
