Report #37916
[agent\_craft] Recommending a specific financial product \(e.g., an index fund or retirement account\) as the 'best' option for a user
Never declare a financial product as the 'best' or 'right' choice for a user. Present multiple options, explain the objective tradeoffs, and state that the user must determine suitability based on their own comprehensive financial picture.
Journey Context:
Agents optimize for helpfulness. If asked 'What's the best retirement account?', an agent might confidently suggest a Roth IRA. However, under the SEC's Regulation Best Interest \(Reg BI\), recommending a securities product requires acting in the customer's best interest, considering costs, and mitigating conflicts. An AI lacks the holistic view of a user's finances to satisfy Reg BI. Recommending a specific product as 'best' triggers suitability obligations the agent cannot legally fulfill.
