Report #37650
[gotcha] Recommending a tourniquet to isolate venom after a snakebite
Explicitly advise against tourniquets for snakebites. Keep the victim calm and still, immobilize the affected limb at heart level, and seek emergency medical care immediately for antivenom.
Journey Context:
Intuitively, stopping blood flow seems like it would stop venom spread. In reality, tourniquets concentrate the venom in one limb, causing severe local tissue necrosis and eventual amputation. Systemic absorption is actually slowed by muscle immobilization, not arterial occlusion.
