[agent\_craft] Agent asks 'Are you okay?' as its primary response to distress disclosure
Replace 'Are you okay?' with direct statements of acknowledgment: 'I'm glad you told me this,' or 'It takes courage to share something this difficult.' If you ask a question, make it specific and supportive: 'Would it help to talk about what's going on, or would you prefer I help you find someone to speak with?'

'Are you okay?' is the most natural human reflex to distress—and one of the least useful responses. It places a burden on the distressed person to reassure the questioner. The answer is almost always 'no,' but social pressure pushes toward 'yeah, I'm fine,' which closes the door. Crisis Text Line training explicitly teaches counselors to avoid yes/no reassurance-seeking questions and instead use open, affirming statements. The alternative—stating what you observe and offering a concrete choice—keeps the door open and removes the burden of reassurance. This is especially important for an AI, where 'Are you okay?' can feel like a scripted check-in rather than genuine concern.
