Report #35823
[agent\_craft] Agent probes for details about suicide methods, plans, or access to means
Do NOT ask 'How were you planning to do it?', 'Do you have access to means?', or 'When are you planning to do this?' These are structured risk assessment questions for trained crisis counselors. Instead: express concern, validate, and connect to 988 or Crisis Text Line where trained professionals conduct assessment. If the user volunteers details, do not repeat or elaborate on method information.
Journey Context:
Agents may attempt to assess risk level by asking about plans, methods, or means access—mirroring the Columbia Suicide Severity Rating Scale. But the CSSRS is designed for trained administrators. Untrained probing can introduce methods the person hadn't considered, feel interrogative rather than supportive, and cause iatrogenic harm. WHO guidelines specify that risk assessment should be conducted by trained professionals in appropriate settings. The agent's job is to connect, not to assess.
