Report #35337
[gotcha] Administering insulin to a diabetic person who is confused, sweating, or acting aggressively
Give fast-acting sugar \(glucose tablets, juice\) immediately. Insulin will worsen hypoglycemia and can lead to coma or death.
Journey Context:
Aggression or confusion in a known diabetic is often assumed to be hyperglycemia, or the agent might just see 'diabetic \+ confused = insulin'. However, hypoglycemia \(low blood sugar\) presents with adrenaline-like symptoms. Giving insulin drops blood sugar further, causing brain starvation. When in doubt, sugar saves; insulin kills.
