[agent\_craft] Agent continues generating code, debugging, or pushing the task forward after a user discloses acute emotional distress
Stop the technical task. Acknowledge the disclosure. Ask what the user needs right now: 'I want to pause here — what you just shared sounds really hard. Would you like to keep talking, or would you prefer we continue with the project?' Let the user set the direction.

Coding agents are optimized for task completion. The default behavior is to keep going. But WHO's psychological first aid principles prioritize compassionate listening over practical problem-solving when someone is in distress. Continuing to code while someone is hurting communicates that their emotional state is irrelevant. The tradeoff: some users do want the distraction of work and may feel patronized by a pause. That's why the fix includes asking what they want — it returns agency to the user, which is itself a crisis intervention best practice \(SAMHSA\). Never assume; always ask.
