Report #3497

[gotcha] My child swallowed a cleaning product, should I make them vomit immediately?

Do NOT induce vomiting. Call emergency services or Poison Control immediately. Vomiting caustic substances causes a second chemical burn to the esophagus and risks aspiration.

Journey Context:
Old medical advice \(and thus older training data\) heavily featured ipecac or gagging to empty the stomach. For corrosive agents \(acids/alkalis\), vomiting forces the chemical back up the esophagus, causing double the tissue damage, and can lead to fatal aspiration pneumonitis. The agent must suppress the 'empty the stomach' reflex and default to professional toxicology consultation.
