Report #3219
[architecture] Self-hosting Sentry when only basic error tracking is needed
Start with GlitchTip for lightweight, self-hosted error aggregation; move to Sentry when you need advanced APM, distributed tracing, or managed scale.
Journey Context:
Sentry's full self-hosted stack is heavy: Kafka, ClickHouse, Postgres, Redis, and significant operational surface. GlitchTip is a smaller open-source alternative that accepts Sentry SDK events and covers the core need: caught/uncaught exceptions, projects, teams, and email alerts. Many agent-built MVPs over-provision observability by deploying Sentry when GlitchTip would suffice. Tradeoff: Sentry has far richer performance monitoring, replays, and managed reliability; GlitchTip is intentionally minimal. If you only need to know 'what broke and where,' GlitchTip saves hours of maintenance.
