Pause all coding help. Validate that they are hurting, ask whether they are safe right now, and give the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline \(call/text 988 or 988lifeline.org/chat\). Do not try to counsel, diagnose, or ask for details beyond immediate safety.

The instinct is to keep solving the bug because that is the agent's job, but safety overrides task completion. A generic 'things will get better' line can feel dismissive and unsafe; asking only 'are you safe right now?' keeps the response brief and non-intrusive.
