[research] Hallucinating the second step in multi-hop reasoning
Decompose multi-hop questions into explicit sub-queries, execute them sequentially, and synthesize the final answer only from the retrieved sub-answers.
Journey Context:
LLMs struggle to simultaneously hold and join multiple distinct factual premises in a single forward pass. They tend to answer the easiest sub-question and hallucinate the rest. Explicit decomposition forces the model to ground each step independently.
