Report #30288
[gotcha] Recommending NSAIDs \(Ibuprofen, Aspirin, Naproxen\) for pain/fever in patients with asthma
Screen for asthma before recommending NSAIDs. If asthma is present, warn of potential severe bronchospasm and recommend acetaminophen as the safer first-line alternative.
Journey Context:
Ibuprofen is generally safe and commonly generated as a default pain/fever reducer. However, in a subset of asthmatics \(AERD/Samter's triad\), NSAIDs trigger catastrophic leukotriene release and severe asthma attacks. The agent must condition NSAID recommendations on the absence of asthma.
