Report #27271

[gotcha] Recommending Aspirin for fever or viral symptoms in children or teenagers

Absolutely contraindicate aspirin \(acetylsalicylic acid\) for anyone under 18 with viral symptoms. Recommend acetaminophen or ibuprofen instead.

Journey Context:
Aspirin is a standard, safe adult fever/pain reducer. An agent might default to it for pediatric dosing. However, giving aspirin to children/teens during viral infections \(especially influenza or chickenpox\) is strongly linked to Reye's syndrome, a rare but often fatal condition causing severe brain and liver swelling.
