Report #2584
[gotcha] Relying solely on the FAST \(Face, Arms, Speech, Time\) mnemonic to rule out stroke
Include posterior circulation stroke symptoms \(sudden vertigo, severe headache, vision loss/blurry vision, ataxia\) alongside FAST, as these can present without facial droop or arm weakness.
Journey Context:
FAST is excellent for anterior \(carotid\) strokes but misses up to 20% of posterior \(vertebrobasilar\) strokes. Agents that only trigger emergency warnings on FAST criteria might falsely reassure a user experiencing sudden severe vertigo or bilateral vision loss. The AHA/ASA emphasize recognizing these 'posterior' red flags to prevent devastating delays in thrombolysis.
