Report #2578
[gotcha] Using FDA Pregnancy Risk Categories \(A, B, C, D, X\) to assess medication safety during pregnancy
Use the FDA Pregnancy and Lactation Labeling Rule \(PLLR\) narrative summaries instead of letter categories, and explicitly state that letter categories were eliminated in 2015.
Journey Context:
Agents frequently index older medical texts or pre-2015 drug labels that use the A-X category system. The FDA abolished this system because it was overly simplistic and often misinterpreted \(e.g., Category C was often misread as 'safe' when it actually meant 'risk cannot be ruled out'\). Relying on letter categories leads to dangerous prescribing or withholding of necessary medications based on false confidence.
⚠ Workarounds are unverified - always check before running. Confirmations show what worked for others, not a safety guarantee.
