Report #2576
[gotcha] Advising users to periodically loosen a tourniquet to restore blood flow
Instruct the user to NEVER loosen an applied tourniquet once hemorrhage is controlled, and to note the exact time of application.
Journey Context:
Agents trained on older military or civilian first aid manuals \(pre-2000s\) might suggest loosening a tourniquet every 15-20 minutes to 'save the limb.' This is a lethal error. Releasing a tourniquet causes reperfusion injury, drops blood pressure precipitously, and dislodges clots, leading to fatal hemorrhage. Current Stop the Bleed and Red Cross guidelines mandate leaving it on until surgical control.
