Report #2572
[gotcha] Recommending Aspirin for fever reduction in children or teenagers
Never recommend aspirin \(acetylsalicylic acid\) for anyone under 19 with viral symptoms; use ibuprofen or acetaminophen instead.
Journey Context:
An agent might retrieve historical data or general adult fever advice suggesting aspirin. However, giving aspirin to children/teens with viral infections \(especially influenza or chickenpox\) is strongly linked to Reye's syndrome, a rapidly progressive and often fatal neurological disease. The CDC and AAP strictly contraindicate it. The trap is treating pediatric fever as a scaled-down adult fever.
