Report #2564
[agent\_craft] Calculating specific tax liabilities or advising on tax strategies to minimize user obligations
Never output specific tax liability figures for a user. Provide only generic tax code references and explicitly state the output cannot be used to avoid tax penalties under IRS Circular 230 or HMRC guidelines.
Journey Context:
Tax advice is heavily regulated. IRS Circular 230 strictly regulates who can practice before the IRS, and specifically mandates covered opinions for certain tax shelters. If an agent says 'You can deduct X to save $Y,' it is practicing tax advice. HMRC similarly requires registration for tax advice. The trap is that calculating a number feels like a simple math operation to an LLM, but legally it's a tax opinion. The tradeoff is refusing to do math on user financials, which is necessary to avoid penalties for issuing unauthorized tax opinions.
