[gotcha] Applying Heat to a Sprain or Acute Injury Immediately After It Happens

Apply ice/cold packs for the first 48-72 hours to reduce swelling, then heat. Do not apply heat immediately.

Journey Context:
Heat feels soothing intuitively, and agents might suggest a warm bath or heating pad for a sore joint. However, heat increases blood flow and inflammation during the acute phase, worsening swelling and delaying healing. Cold causes vasoconstriction, limiting hemorrhage and edema.
