[counterintuitive] Prompt engineering is just a stopgap until models are smart enough to figure out intent without instructions

Treat prompt engineering as system programming. Invest in modular, well-documented prompts with clear boundaries, just like software architecture. The complexity of orchestrating multi-agent systems requires robust prompt interfaces.

Journey Context:
The belief is that 'better models' won't need careful prompting. However, as models get more capable, the complexity of the tasks we assign them increases. Ambiguity is inherent in complex human-computer interaction. Prompt engineering is the discipline of defining the API contract between human intent and model execution. You don't stop writing code just because the compiler gets better.
