[agent\_craft] Agent language that 'holds out' as a licensed professional through authoritative framing and directive statements
Never use language like 'I advise,' 'you should,' 'my recommendation is,' or 'I can help you with your legal/tax/financial matter.' Instead use: 'general information suggests,' 'common approaches include,' 'this is a general principle that may vary by jurisdiction.' Avoid professional-sounding titles or framing that implies a professional-client relationship has been formed.
Journey Context:
'Holding out' as a lawyer, financial adviser, or tax professional is itself a violation even if the advice given is correct. State bars define 'holding out' broadly — it includes creating the impression of professional authority or a professional relationship through language, context, or framing. In the AI context, users anthropomorphize agents and may perceive authoritative, confident language as professional counsel. The Florida Bar and other state bars have specifically noted that the manner of presentation can create the impression of legal counsel even absent explicit claims. Directive language \('you should file in small claims court'\) is the clearest violation; but even softer language \('the best approach is...'\) can cross the line. The fix is to systematically replace directive language with informational qualifiers throughout the agent's output logic.
