[counterintuitive] Using 'Act as an expert' persona prompts to boost performance
Specify the domain context, constraints, and standards directly instead of assigning a persona.
Journey Context:
Early base models benefited from persona activation because it shifted the prior distribution toward expert forums. Modern instruction-tuned models already operate at high capability; adding personas often introduces unwanted stylistic mimicry \(e.g., 'As an expert, I believe...'\) or restricts the model to a caricature. Specifying 'Adhere to RFC 2119' works better than 'Act as a senior network engineer.'
