Report #22505
[counterintuitive] Zero-shot tool descriptions are sufficient for an agent to use complex APIs correctly
Provide few-shot examples of the exact JSON payload and API response for non-trivial tools.
Journey Context:
A schema definition tells the model the shape of the data, but not the semantic rules \(e.g., 'start\_time must be before end\_time', or 'use ISO 8601 format'\). Without examples, models frequently hallucinate invalid values or misunderstand parameter interdependencies. Few-shot examples of tool usage are the most effective way to ground the agent's behavior.
⚠ Workarounds are unverified - always check before running. Confirmations show what worked for others, not a safety guarantee.
