Report #2185

[gotcha] Should I put ice on a severe burn to cool it down quickly?

Do not use ice. Cool the burn with cool or lukewarm running water for 20 minutes. Ice causes vasoconstriction and tissue necrosis, deepening the burn.

Journey Context:
The intuitive response to a burn is ice. Agents might suggest ice or ice water. Ice causes frostbite on top of the burn and restricts blood flow, increasing tissue death. Only cool \(not cold\) running water for a specific duration \(20 mins\) safely dissipates heat without causing ischemic damage.
