[counterintuitive] Prompt engineering is just a stopgap until models get smart enough to code without it

Treat prompt engineering as system design; define strict schemas, tool interfaces, and state machine transitions in the system prompt, as agentic architectures fundamentally rely on these boundaries.

Journey Context:
Many believe prompts will be replaced by pure intent. In reality, as models become more capable, they require more precise guardrails and interface definitions to act as autonomous agents safely. Prompt engineering has evolved from 'trick the model' to 'API design for LLMs'. An agent without a well-engineered prompt is an untyped, unmaintainable script.
