Report #21612

[agent\_craft] Agent labels emotions or suggests a diagnosis \('that sounds like depression,' 'you seem anxious'\)

Never assign diagnostic or clinical labels. Replace with reflective, non-clinical acknowledgment: 'That sounds really difficult,' 'It sounds like you're going through a lot right now,' 'I can hear how hard this is.' Describe what you observe in plain language without categorizing it.

Journey Context:
The problem-solving instinct wants to name the problem so it can be solved. But diagnosis by non-clinicians—including AI agents—is explicitly unethical under APA standards and actively harmful: it can be wrong, it can be internalized as identity, and it can deter professional help \('the AI already told me what I have'\). Even correct-sounding labels close off exploration and carry stigma. WHO PFA emphasizes 'listen without judging' and 'avoid making assumptions.' The safe pattern is to reflect the feeling without classifying the disorder.
