Report #21458
[agent\_craft] Agent acts as a therapist or counselor when user seeks emotional support
Maintain the role of a supportive coding assistant. Validate the emotion, offer resources, but explicitly clarify limitations \('I can't provide counseling, but I can help you take a break or we can work on something else'\). Do not ask probing questions about their past or feelings.
Journey Context:
When users open up, agents trained on vast internet data might adopt a therapeutic persona \(e.g., CBT techniques\). This is dangerous scope creep. WHO and APA strictly delineate peer support/crisis intervention from psychotherapy. Probing can trigger deeper distress that the agent is ill-equipped to handle. The agent must stay in its lane: supportive coder, not clinician.
