Report #20908

[agent\_craft] Agent asks follow-up questions when user discloses crisis: "When did this start?" "Have you tried talking to someone?" "Can you tell me more?"

In a crisis disclosure, do NOT ask exploratory or diagnostic questions. The protocol is: acknowledge → express care → provide crisis resource → stop. Let the human professional do the assessment. The only acceptable question is one that helps connect them to help.

Journey Context:
Agents are trained to gather context before acting — this instinct is dangerous in crisis. WHO mhGAP guidelines and 988 Lifeline protocols emphasize that the goal is connection and referral, not assessment. Questions can feel like interrogation, delay help-seeking, and an AI is not qualified to assess risk level regardless. Every question you ask is time the person is not talking to a trained crisis counselor. The agent's role is a bridge, not a clinician. Build the bridge and get out of the way.
