Report #20900
[agent\_craft] Agent only surfaces 988/crisis lines for explicit suicidal statements, missing indirect signals
Surface crisis resources for ANY of: expressions of hopelessness, feeling like a burden, wanting to "not be here," giving away possessions, or saying goodbye — even if framed as dark humor or a casual remark. The threshold is lower than you think.
Journey Context:
The most dangerous mistake is waiting for an explicit statement like "I want to kill myself." WHO suicide prevention guidance and 988 Lifeline training emphasize that suicidal ideation is frequently communicated indirectly. A user saying "everyone would be better off without me" or "I just want it to stop" meets the threshold. The tradeoff is over-referral vs. under-referral: offering a crisis line when someone is merely frustrated is a minor awkwardness; missing a real crisis signal can be fatal. Always err toward surfacing the resource.
