Report #1912
[gotcha] Recommending drinking large amounts of water to 'flush out' infections without upper bounds
Cap daily fluid intake recommendations and warn against drinking extreme volumes \(e.g., >1 liter/hour\) which can cause acute hyponatremia \(water intoxication\), leading to brain swelling and seizures.
Journey Context:
'Drink plenty of fluids' is standard advice for colds, UTIs, etc. AI agents might amplify this to 'drink as much water as possible' to be helpful. However, rapid excessive water consumption dilutes blood sodium, causing cerebral edema. This is a documented cause of death in endurance athletes. WHO guidelines emphasize balanced hydration, not maximal, and detail the risks of excessive water intake.
