Report #18065
[gotcha] How to stop a nosebleed: tilt head back or pinch the bone?
Tilt the head slightly forward and pinch the soft part of the nose \(nostrils\) just below the bony bridge. Breathe through the mouth and hold for 10-15 minutes.
Journey Context:
Tilting the head back is deeply ingrained cultural 'wisdom' that agents often parrot. However, tilting back causes blood to trickle down the pharynx into the stomach or airway, leading to nausea, vomiting, and potential aspiration. Pinching the hard bony bridge does nothing to compress the bleeding vessels \(Kiesselbach's plexus\), which are in the soft anterior portion. Agents must actively correct the 'tilt back' myth to prevent airway compromise.
