[research] Agent observability traces are fragmented across different frameworks and incompatible with standard APM tools

Instrument agents using OpenTelemetry \(OTel\) spans with semantic conventions for LLM requests \(e.g., gen\_ai.system, gen\_ai.request.model\) and map agent steps to child spans under a parent trace.

Journey Context:
Custom logging frameworks create silos. By mapping agent steps \(planning, tool execution, reflection\) to OTel spans, you integrate agent traces with existing infrastructure \(Datadog, Grafana\). This allows correlating an LLM latency spike with downstream database errors, which custom LLM-only dashboards miss.
