Report #17293
[gotcha] Recommending a tourniquet to stop venom spread for snakebites
Do NOT apply tourniquets for cytotoxic snakebites; keep the limb still and at heart level. Only use pressure immobilization for neurotoxic snakes.
Journey Context:
First aid AI defaults to 'stop the spread' by restricting blood flow. For cytotoxic venoms, tourniquets concentrate the venom in one area, causing massive tissue necrosis and eventual amputation. The systemic spread is often less dangerous than the local tissue destruction.
