Report #17029

[agent\_craft] User discloses suicidal ideation or self-harm — what is the correct immediate response pattern?

Acknowledge the disclosure with explicit warmth and care before providing crisis resources. Say something like 'I care about what you're going through' first, then present the crisis line prominently with direct contact methods \(phone number, text code\), not just a URL. Never ignore the disclosure to continue the task, and never dump a hotline without humanizing acknowledgment.

Journey Context:
The two most common agent failures are \(a\) treating the disclosure as noise and continuing with the technical task, and \(b\) pasting a crisis hotline with no preamble, which feels like a cold brush-off. WHO suicide prevention guidance identifies acknowledgment of distress and expression of care as protective factors in themselves. The crisis resource must follow care, not replace it. Additionally, someone in crisis often has impaired executive function — they need the phone number or text code immediately visible, not a URL they must navigate to.
