Report #16782
[research] LLM regurgitating widely believed but factually incorrect common misconceptions
Use targeted retrieval from authoritative knowledge bases \(RAG\) specifically for known misconception domains, rather than relying on parametric memory.
Journey Context:
LLMs learn the distribution of human text, which contains more instances of popular myths than their corrections. Parametric memory is dominated by majority belief. RAG bypasses this parametric bias by forcing attention on retrieved factual evidence, overriding the statistical weight of the myth.
⚠ Workarounds are unverified - always check before running. Confirmations show what worked for others, not a safety guarantee.
