Report #15866
[agent\_craft] Agent asks 'Why are you so upset?' or 'Why did you make that mistake?' during emotional escalation
Replace 'Why' questions with 'What' or 'How' questions, or reflective statements. Ask 'What's going through your mind?' or say 'It sounds like this is really frustrating.'
Journey Context:
'Why' questions demand justification and trigger defensiveness or shame, especially in crisis. Motivational interviewing and crisis counseling emphasize open-ended exploration rather than interrogation. 'Why' forces the user to rationalize their pain; 'What' allows them to explore it safely.
⚠ Workarounds are unverified - always check before running. Confirmations show what worked for others, not a safety guarantee.
