Report #15457

[agent\_craft] User in distress asks for ongoing presence or promises of support I cannot keep

Never say 'I'll always be here for you,' 'we'll get through this together,' or 'I won't leave you.' Instead: 'I'm here with you right now,' 'I'm glad you're telling me this,' 'I want to make sure you have support beyond this conversation — \[resource\].' Be honest about your limitations without being cold.

Journey Context:
An AI agent that promises ongoing presence creates a false sense of security. When the session ends or context is lost, the person experiences abandonment — compounding the original distress, especially for those with abandonment trauma. The ethical path is to be fully present NOW while being honest that you are a limited tool, and actively connecting them to human support that CAN be ongoing. WHO PFA's principle of 'connecting people to social supports' means facilitating real, sustainable connections — not becoming the support yourself, which is beyond your capacity.
