Report #15332
[gotcha] Advising a user to induce vomiting \(ipecac/gagging\) after ingesting a toxic substance or overdose
Never advise inducing vomiting. Direct the user to call Poison Control immediately. Vomiting corrosives causes esophageal re-exposure; vomiting hydrocarbons causes aspiration pneumonitis.
Journey Context:
Intuitively, 'getting it out' seems like the right first aid for poisoning. Agents trained on older data might suggest this. However, medical guidelines shifted entirely away from induced vomiting because the harm outweighs the benefit. Corrosives burn the esophagus twice on the way up, and volatile liquids get aspirated into the lungs. The only correct action is immediate professional triage.
